What
is ACH?
Automated Clearing House (ACH)
transactions are transmitted through the ACH
Network
which is a
highly reliable and efficient nationwide
batch-oriented electronic funds transfer system
governed by the National Automated Clearing House
Association (NACHA)
and its Operating Rules.
These
Operating Rules provide the
guidelines for the interbank clearing of electronic
payments for participating depository financial
institutions. The American Clearing House
Association, Federal Reserve, Electronic Payments
Network and Visa act as ACH Operators or central
clearing facilities through which financial
institutions transmit or receive ACH entries.

What are the Benefits of ACH Transactions?
|
Reduced
banking costs. An ACH transaction costs much less
than a paper check and considerably less than a wire
transfer. |
|
Reduced reconciliation
costs. Because ACH payments are electronic,
reconciliation is reduced or even
eliminated, and is more automated than in
manual paper systems. |
|
Improved
Cash Flow. Using ACH payments can accelerate cash
inflow by reducing invoicing, customer processing,
mail delays and internal processing. |
|
Control
of payment timing. ACH payments can increase control
of payment initiation and funds availability,
and help with cash forecasting. |
|
Reliability.
ACH transactions are made in a timely, predictable
manner, and have a lower margin for human error
than paper checks. |
|
Improved
Check Recovery: Re-presentment of electronic checks
speeds up the collections process. |
|
Improved
Customer Service: Customers can make payments
for NSFs online, reducing collections time and
efforts, improving customer relations. |
